Mega Man: Do You Care?
Mega Man 10 will be released to WiiWare, PS3 and Xbox soon. The question I have is: Do you care?
I've never been a big fan. I do have the GameCube collection (not the MegaMan X series--the good one) but I've never been compelled to play Mega Man repeatedly because as a platformer I find the mechanics a bit limiting. Opinions? |

RE: Mega Man: Do You Care?
In short, no.
I tried one of the mega man game demos on Xbox live. Couldn't get anywhere at all, and gave up. |

RE: Mega Man: Do You Care?
Oh hells yes I care. Although 9 was ridiculously hard, and the developers admit now that they were dicks for doing that. This one will have an 'easy' mode, which in MM game terms would be most other games' 'hard' mode.
Question though: What about the mechanics are limiting? Jump, shoot, slide, capturing and using the weapons of fallen opponents, various Rush transformations like jetpacks and spring boards... not sure what else should be there for a game like this. Also: the X series is actually quite awesome. It was designed to be more challenging and help it get out of the "[blank] Man" rut. I can understand not being a fan, but "the good one" seems a tad harsh. It was a simpler time. Technology was cruder; pixels were bigger. |

RE: Mega Man: Do You Care?
I'm glad there is someone that enjoys the series--and all of it. As far as the mechanics go I remember trying to jump and shoot at the same time didn't seem to work. Intuitive movements I expected to work in combination didn't. Maybe it's just because it was an earlier Mega Man game. I tried the demo of IX and didn't think it was awful... and as far as 8-bit platformers go.... Mega Man is pretty cool. I just never got into it. I'm looking to be sold on it really. As far as "the good one" statement... Harsh maybe... not intentionally. I inquired from 2 or 3 gamers and they all said they liked the original Mega Man better and not to bother with X. You're the first person to tell me otherwise.
I suppose like most platformers, you have to get used to the mechanics as they will differ. It's part of what makes a game challenging, I suppose. Can you tell me WHICH of the MegaMan series you like best and which of the X series you like best? |

RE: Mega Man: Do You Care?
Original MM games: 2, 3, 6 and 8
2 is the most classic, easiest one too. 3 is wicked, and my favorite overall. 6 I like because it came out in 1994, long after everyone else abandoned the NES, but the game play still made it competitive. 8 was the first ever 32-bit Mega Man game, and is beautiful, although stupidly hard. X titles: 1 (great fun and the music is just so great) and 2 (mainly because of the hidden 'shoryuken' move). Once the series got into the 32-bit era, it became just too damn difficult. I think being a sadist is one of the job requirements to work on Mega games at Capcom. I get not liking the games. They have their quirks, but that's part of the charm I suppose. Most important things to remember about any Mega games: - You can only have three shots on the screen at once. Period. - When you are forced to blindly fall down a pit, be ready to move left and right. - Learn to 'tap' jump. Holding the button makes him jump higher than a quick stab. It was a simpler time. Technology was cruder; pixels were bigger. |
